The Network runs on an informal structure. This means that we do not have statutes or elections. Instead we focus all of our efforts on substance. We meet on a regular basis and members take a rotating leadership of the group. The secretariat is charged with facilitating collaboration amongst members, advise on policy and to represent the Network.
We have existed since 2010 when the UK Nursing and Midwifery Council brought together EU nursing regulators to input into the revision of the 2005/36/EC Directive. Since then we have been active in updating the text of the legislation and inputting into the policy implementation of its new provisions; amongst other things, the European Professional Card, Alert Mechanism, Common Training Frameworks, Annexe V and more.
Leadership of the network is fluid, but at the moment our members from Spain, UK and Ireland have contributed their resources to running the network.
Consejo General de Enfermeria
The Collegiate Nursing Organization is basically composed of the General Nursing Council, 17 regional councils and 52 provincial schools, which are articulated as Public Law Corporations covered by the law and recognized by the State and the Constitution.
The General Council of Official Colleges of Nursing Spain is the regulatory body and competent authority of the nursing profession in Spain legally constituted as the highest organ of representation and coordination of those at the national and international level, having all the effects the quality of public corporation with its own legal personality and full capacity to fulfill its purposes.
Nursing and Midwifery Council
The NMC regulates nurses and midwives in England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. We exist to protect the public. We set standards of education, training, conduct and performance so that nurses and midwives can deliver high quality healthcare throughout their careers.
We make sure that nurses and midwives keep their skills and knowledge up to date and uphold our professional standards. We have clear and transparent processes to investigate nurses and midwives who fall short of our standards. We maintain a register of nurses and midwives allowed to practise in the UK.
Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland
Protecting patients and other members of the public is at the heart of what we do at the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI). We are committed to fulfilling this objective by supporting registered midwives and nurses to provide patient care to the highest standards. NMBI, formerly An Bord Altranais, is the independent, statutory organisation which regulates the nursing and midwifery professions in Ireland. We work with nurses and midwives, the public and key stakeholders to enhance patient safety and patient care.
